A mobile app I designed in collaboration with my colleague Sineád Davis for our Master’s thesis. We completed all design, development, and user research ourselves and documented our findings in our thesis, available at the DIT library. Fáinne is currently in beta testing, to be released soon on the App Store.
Fáinne is a mobile guide to the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht. Incorporating Irish language, traditional music and dance, local festivals and activities, the app provides an immersive and educational experience to visitors in the Córca Dhúibhne area who wish to delve into the rich culture of the Gaeltacht while brushing up on their cúpla focal. Great for tourists from abroad learning Irish for the first time or seasoned Irish speakers wishing for a fun and safe environment to practice, Fáinne helps you find hidden gems in the area where you can eat, drink, play, and learn all while experiencing the unique beauty of West Kerry.
The first page users see when they open the open. We wanted to make it bright and inviting.
When users navigate to a particular restaurant or activity page, they see a relevant photo, the name, address, and a map with it's location. The can scroll through user photos that users have uploaded to get a better idea of the kind of experience they can expect.
Users can scroll down for a description, contact the venue using the phone, email, and website buttons, and can practice an Irish phrase relevant to the place!
On dance pages they can learn about and watch videos of dances common to the Corca Dhuibhne area. They can also practice a phrase to use at their next session or céilí.
On music pages they can learn about and listen to tunes common to the Corca Dhuibhne area. They can also practice a phrase to use at their next session or céilí.
